Sammanfattning
This thesis focuses on a weight optimization of an articulated waist in adrilling machine using structural optimization. A method for structuraloptimization is set up, with the aim of providing a guideline for the future.In the developed method, topology optimization is used for the initialdesign, and shape optimization for the later stages of the design process.The results show a lighter design which is validated for the load cases usedby the company. The castability is covered, where a feasible design tocast is obtained. Castability is also discussed more in depth, and changesthat could be made are suggested from a more theoretical standpoint. Afinal recommendation of how to use this thesis is presented, i.e. how toimplement the obtained design and how to use structural optimizationfrom a broader perspective.
