Writing the Female Body in Belinda Blinked

This study examines how Belinda Blinked 1 (2015) represents the female body through exaggerated language, metaphor and a male-authored narrative perspective. Although the novel is widely known through the podcast My Dad Wrote a Porno, this study sets aside reception and focuses on the written text itself. Using qualitative close reading, the analysis explores how bodily knowledge, sexual pleasure and agency are constructed through description rather than through lived bodily experience. The study argues that the novel creates distance rather than intimacy: anatomy is often inaccurate or invented, pleasure is organised through repetition and measurable performance, and sexuality is tied to professionalism and transactional logic. Overall, Belinda Blinked depicts the female body as highly visible and narratively useful, while consistently sidelining the body as something felt, uncertain or resistant.
