Sammanfattning

ABSTRACT Background: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) aims at interventions to restore spontaneous circulation at the time of cardiac arrest. In these situations it is not uncommon for relatives to present, both in, and out of hospital. Aim: To describe the relatives experiences of being present at the time of cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a family member. Method: A qualitative, descriptive review of literature based on 9 articles, 3 of which based solely on relatives who witnessed CPR, 5 of which based on both relatives who witnessed CPR, but also the patients and/or health professionals. One of the articles is based on both relatives who witnessed CPR, and relatives to patients who risk suffering cardiac arrest. All of the articles were found on PubMed, and quality assurance and analysis was made with the help of SBUs (2022) review template. Result: The review of literature resulted in 5 themes: The need of participation and presence for the relative, The need of communication and information from caregivers for the relative, The experience of witnessing CPR, vulnerability, shock and existential burden of the relative, Experiences of being met, support and professionalism of the relative, and The need of continuous support and follow-up for the relative. Conclusion: The result shows mixed experiences and needs from the relative, where the CPR-situation is embossed with insufficient information, support, and follow-up for the relative.
