Sammanfattning

This Master’s Thesis investigates the potential of artificial intelligence for use in automatedcompliance checking in the construction industry in Sweden. The study was conducted on alarge construction company in Sweden, as well as institutions responsible for the publication ofrequirements and legal frameworks. The study examined technological, judicial, organisational,and personal aspects which influence the possibility of the implementation and usage of AI forACC within the construction industry. The TAM and TOE frameworks were used to distinguishthe factors at play influencing the maturity of the technology, the readiness of organisations, andthe willingness of the people affected. In addition to this, the potential level of automation wasanalysed, evaluating what parts of the rule compliance checking process is appropriate forautomation. This was analysed by weighing the risks of miscalculations and misinterpretationsof legal frameworks to the possible advantages found through the potential optimisations of theprocess, as well as the level of trust humans are willing to give to such systems. Other factorstaken into consideration in the analysis were among others, the possible eventual loss of humancompetence, and technological optimism.
