Sammanfattning

This work details the optimization and validation of an Emergency Drop-weight System (EDWS)for the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) SAM 3. The work focused on reducing thephysical footprint of the existing electronics, optimizing the drop-weight and validating the ascentperformance through numerical simulation. By redesigning the Printed Circuit Board (PCB)in KiCad and transitioning to a microcontroller-managed logic, the PCB area was reduced by56%. Furthermore, a physical model was developed to simulate recovery from a depth of 150 musing real-world density data from the Baltic Sea and the Swedish West Coast. Results indicate amaximum time to surface of 7,17 minutes in the Baltic Sea for the last generation of SAM.
