The purpose of this scoping review was to explore and give answer on two research questions : In what ways can trauma be understood in children that live or have lived in war affected environments? How can social work and psychosocial interventions contribute to recovery and rehabilitation in war affected children? Previous studies and research has indicated that war related trauma can present in various ways in children. The studies have also shown that the psychosocial interventions for war related trauma can be performed in many different ways. Our method is based on a scoping review, meaning searching through academic databases for articles that can answer our two research questions. The 18 articles that have been regarded as relevant for this study are from the period 1997-2026. The countries of origin of the articles were mainly from European and Asian countries. Articles from parts of the USA, South America and Australia were also included. The collected material has shown multiple aspects that have become evident to us. These aspects are : War trauma : Expressions and consequences, Different types of support and their implications and Different protective factors. The main outcome indicates that all the above mentioned aspects play a significant role in our study on how children are affected by and recover from war. With other words the above mentioned aspects indicate that each child gets affected by war related trauma in their own way and that each child’s journey towards recovery and rehabilitation is individual and unique. With this being said, our study has shown that even if each child has different needs of recovery, the psychosocial interventions may not be available to the necessary extent. This is an important aspect that will be presented in our study and therefore we hope that it will reach out to as many as possible.
