This study examines variations in job satisfaction among employed individuals in Sweden, with a focus on sociodemographic factors, structural working conditions, and workload. Drawing on the data from the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) 2015, Work Orientations IV, the associations are analyzed through a hierarchical multiple regression analysis conducted in three steps. The results show that sociodemographic variables such as gender, age, income, and sector have limited explanatory value for job satisfaction, with none of these variables reaching statistical significance. Structural working conditions, however, explain a substantial portion of the variance, most notably the perception of the job as interesting (β = 0,456), followed by opportunities for advancement, job security, and autonomy. Perceived stress showed a significant negative association with job satisfaction (β = -0,219), while weekly working hours were not significant. The final model explained 42,7 percent of the variance. A notable finding was that years of education showed a weak negative association with job satisfaction, interpreted through the lens of expectation gaps and Bourdieu's theory of capital. The findings are discussed in relation to Bourdieu’s capital theory, Hochschild’s theory of emotional labor, and Job Demands-Resources theory. The study contributes to the understanding of how structural working conditions, rather than sociodemographic characteristics, shape job satisfaction in the Swedish labor market.
