Sammanfattning

The purpose of this study is to examine how managers in the private sector experience and handle organizational demands and expectations, and how these relate to managers' perceived scope for action into the role. The study also explores how managers manage tensions and contradictions between expectations from superiors, employees, and the practical conditions of the organization. A qualitative method was used, based on eight semi-structured interviews with managers at different organizational levels in the private sector. The findings show that the managerial role is characterized by high organizational demands, particularly related to performance, results, and goal achievement. At the same time, respondents describe a relatively high degree of scope for action, mainly concerning how goals are achieved rather than which goals are set. The study further shows that conflicting demands are a recurring part of the managerial role. These are mainly managed through prioritizing, communication, adaptation, and balancing different interests. The conclusion is that control and managers' practical scope for action- Effective leadership therefore requires clear frameworks, trust, and the possibility to adapt organizational demands to the conditions of everyday work.
