Sammanfattning

Non-profit sports organizations play an important role in creating participation and community, while also facing increasing demands for inclusive communication. Despite this, many organizations lack the knowledge, resources, and guidelines needed to create inclusive visual communication. The purpose of this study is to examine how non-profit sports organizations work with visual communication from an inclusion perspective, identify related challenges and needs, and develop a practical handbook based on established inclusive design principles. The study applied a mixed methods approach consisting of a survey with 40 respondents, six semi-structured interviews, and three task-based user tests. The analysis was based on theories of inclusive design, visual semiotics, and inclusive visual communication. The results show that organizations have a strong ambition to work inclusively, but that this is rarely reflected in their visual communication. The main challenges identified were lack of time, limited design knowledge, and absence of graphic guidelines. The findings also indicate a need for practical support through templates, checklists, and clear examples. Based on these findings, a digital handbook was developed with a focus on simplicity, clarity, and practical usability. The user tests indicated that practical support helped participants create more inclusive visual material. The study concludes that concrete design principles can make inclusive visual communication easier to apply within non-profit sports organizations.
