Sammanfattning

Bicycle highways are a new concept that Region Skåne has developed to encourage more people in Skåne to choose cycling as a mode of transport. In Skåne, there are currently four completed bicycle highways that Region Skåne and Trafikverket are developing together with the local governments. Based on a study, Region Skåne has identified relevant routes throughout Skåne and in Helsingborg, a route between Laröd and Helsingborg C has been completed. However, the Laröd - Helsingborg C route, which Helsingborgs stad chose to complete first, may raise questions about transport justice and whether the bicycle highway contributes to accessibility within the city. Thus, the essay aims to analyze the new bicycle infrastructure built between Laröd and Helsingborg C from an accessibility and equity perspective and to investigate why that particular route has been prioritized in Helsingborgs stad planning. The study is based on a qualitative research design where document studies, interviews and spatial GIS analyses have been used to examine the reasons behind the bicycle highway route and also what consequences the completion of the bicycle highway between Laröd and Helsingborg C will have for the accessibility of Helsingborg residents. Overall, the study has shown that Helsingborgs stad chose to complete the Laröd - Helsingborg C route first due to cost and time efficiency, while the route had great potential to change the travel behavior of Laröd residents. Moreover, the study shows how the other relevant routes pass through more areas with varying socio-economic conditions and population density, and that prioritizing Laröd - Helsingborg C can therefore be questioned from an accessibility and equity perspective.
