This essay mainly examines the Police's crime prevention work in the city of Uddevalla. Through interviews and a document study, successes and setbacks in crime prevention work and collaboration between different actors are explored. Crime prevention is constantly evaluated, studied and examined, both internally and externally, but it appears that it is difficult to arrive at a clear answer about what actually works. This is a recurring problem in the subject of crime prevention and this essay is intended to clarify successes and setbacks of the work carried out in the city of Uddevalla. This essay will be conducted from a perspective of sociology of law where the relationship between law in books and law in action is discussed. The material will also be analyzed using Travis Hirschi's social bond theory. The result shows that a uncertainty in legislation can create a rather free interpretation about who and how crime prevention work should be carried out. This results in differences in methods at both a national and a local level. The Police's crime prevention work in the city of Uddevalla exhibits multiple of Hirschi's social bonds. We argue that crime prevention methods based on all four social bonds will not only work in situational crime prevention but also deal with the underlying issues of crime.
