Ett förebyggande arbete i en utsatt skolmiljö : En kvalitativ studie om skolkuratorers förebyggande arbete med barn i socioekonomiskt utsatta områden

Around 1,4 millions of people live with socioeconomic challenges, 710 000 peoplelive in areas that are classified as vulnerable areas, of which 170 000 are children. Asocioeconomic vulnerability can cause isolation, unemployment and criminality, whenit comes to children there is a higher risk for lower grades in school. The school has acentral role when it comes to preventative work, which is emphasized in law. Despitethat it is not obvious how the school and school counselors work preventatively sincethe work often is filled with emergency cases. This makes the role as a schoolcounselor unclear, which is why this study is relevant. The aim of this study is to getan understanding of how school counselors work preventatively with children insocioeconomic vulnerable areas. The data for this study was collected through aqualitative method of nine interviews with school counselors. The interview questionswere semi structured with open ended questions. All interviews were transcribed andanalyzed with an thematic content analysis. This material was used in the result thatwas analysed with the help of previous research and the concepts of discretion,profession and organization. Furthermore, the result of the study showed that bycollaborating at the universal, selective and indicated levels, school counselors cancreate effective preventive work with early interventions. With alliances, resourcesand collaboration between authorities, it is possible for school counselors insocioeconomic vulnerable areas to work against school difficulties, socialvulnerability and early identification of students who show signs of difficulties andproblems.
