The purpose of the study was to highlight how public libraries' work with crisis preparedness can be developed and what relevance the Toolbox for libraries' emergency preparedness work has for Swedish public libraries. Emergency preparedness in Sweden is under development and public libraries can play an important role in strengthening the resilience of local communities. The Swedish Library Association has developed the Toolbox for libraries' emergency preparedness work to facilitate the work. Far from all public libraries are included in the municipality crisis organization. A qualitative interview study was conducted with semi-structured interviews. 17 people working in public libraries in Sweden were interviewed and the interview material was analyzed with thematic analysis. The crisis preparedness quadrant was developed using the disaster management cycle and resilience theory, the model was then used in the analysis. The results showed that the role of public libraries needs to be clarified and the cooperation between the municipality and public libraries needs to be strengthened. Skills development and resources are needed for public libraries' emergency preparedness to be developed. The Toolbox for libraries' emergency preparedness work is used to a low extent. The conclusion resulted in the need for national collaboration, collaboration with the municipality crisis organization and various voluntary organizations. National government guidelines are needed, the role of public libraries should be highlighted in the library plan and library staff need to be included. Communication with the municipality is important, as is knowledge of crisis preparedness, MIK and how to respond to people in a crisis situation. There is a lack of time, financial- and materialresources as well as human resources. The perspective of the toolbox should be changed to target the right target group. This is a two-year master's thesis in Library and Information Science.
