The aim of this paper is to improve the management of joint facilities and private roads. This was done by identify and investigat different problems connected to the private road organisations, formed through the regulation of joint facility and associations connected to them. One aspect of the investigation was if the area of included land connected to one joint facility had grown in size. By studying cadastral dossiers established in the National Land Survey of Sweden, from 2010 and 2019, it was possible to point out a tendency of creating facilities included a bigger land area. By studying the same cadastral dossier it was possible to find out that many of the cadastral orders had regulations that was openly formulated, dealing with the standard of the road, and which space the road was intended to be up taken. These investigated factors can be problematic in different ways from the perspective of road management. An important part of this paper was the contact with persons handling management of private roads as professionals. The knowledge gained from these meetings contributed with an understanding of difficulties and what the professionals inquires in terms of change and improvement. Along many common opinions, it is important to mediate that the fundamental regulation affect joint facilities and the management is perceived as good costume to its aim, to secure the right to use the roads. That does not contradict the chance of practical improvement, such as coordinated managements.
