Sammanfattning

This essay discusses and analyses how the roles for women from high social standings and wealthy families changed within their public professions and their private homesphere due to the christening of areas near and within the modern city of Stockholm during the viking age. The analysis consists of a comparative analysis of four prechristian female graves and four christian female graves, as well as two written documents in form of runestones. The grave material suggests several different professions women might have had, as well as several different duties women might have had in the home. The christening of Stockholm does not show any significant changes in women's professions or women home roles in relation to christianity.
