In this essay, I will analyse how Christian values are depicted in The Hobbit by examining various characters and contrasting the destructive forces of greed and pride with the virtues of compassion, bravery, and moral integrity. This essay analyses how The Hobbit portrays the struggle between good and evil, the destructive nature of greed and pride, Bilbo Baggins' symbolic journey of Christian moral growth, and the role of divine providence as depicted through luck. Through a close reading of The Hobbit and analysis of relevant literature, this essay concludes that Tolkien uses Bilbo and other characters' moral choices and the connection between free will and divine intervention to explore Christian themes.
