Från mönster till mening - En autoetnografisk studie om navigering på gitarrens greppbräda genom CAGED-systemet

The purpose of this study is to explore the CAGED system’s pros and cons in regard to understanding how to navigate the fretboard on the guitar. On this basis we have formulated the following research questions: How can we learn to navigate the fretboard using CAGED? How does our knowledge, guitar performance and our understanding of the fretboard evolve when we approach it with CAGED and deliberate practice? In this study we have utilized autoethnography, and therefore our personal experiences serve as the empirical basis of the research. Our conclusion is that restrictions and clear parameters lightened our cognitive load and leads to deeper learning. The structured approach offered rewarding new insights into the fretboard´s tonal construction. Future research could involve an observational study regarding guitar teachers' use of CAGED as a method to promote students' skill development.
