This thesis deals with moisture management in wooden structures. In modern society it is currently common to use cross-laminated timber wood (CLT) in constructions. As the new technologies advances every day, moisture management needs to be streamlined. The purpose of the work is to delve deeper into the subject and investigate which concerns can arise when building in wood and how to prevent the concerns from occurring in an optimal way. The aim of this thesis to study is sequent questions: • What types/sources of moisture can be found? • How to best protect a building from moisture? With help from literature study, interview study and documentation analysis of reference projects the subject has been investigated. The interview study is based on the respondent’s previous experiences of moisture management in wooden structures. The documentation analysis is grounded on a rolling wood project moisture management and analysis of possible critical elements regarding moisture. The results of the three studies have been analysed and conclusions have been drawn. The study shows that precipitation and humidity are sources that should be considered when building in wood. During construction in wood are you most afraid of microbial growth. According to this study, the most common causes of moisture damage are stagnant water on horizontal surfaces and dampening of end wood. It is important to have this under supervision during production. The best way to protect the building from moisture during production is to carry out well-organized moisture safety work early in the design process. This in combination with efficient construction logistics and continuous moisture safety work. Comprehensive weather protection is often excluded due the high cost.
