Sammanfattning

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is a relationship between health and economic growth. Specifically, the study examines whether economic growth affects three selected health variables in a positive or negative way. Data from 38 OECD nations between 2000 to 2020 are used in a panel data regression with fixed effects to evaluate this. Three equations are formulated to analyze the relationship between economic growth and the different health variables: life expectancy, infant mortality and mortality from cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory disease. To lower the possibility of skewed outcomes, the models incorporate a number of control variables as well. The primary findings of the regressions demonstrate that economic growth has a statistically significant impact on the three health variables. While infant mortality and mortality from CVD, cancer, diabetes and CRD are seen to rise with increasing levels of economic growth, life expectancy is observed to decline as economic growth increases. The overall conclusion is that economic expansion seems to have a negative impact on health outcomes.
