Despite the constant use of social media, science needs a more indepth knowledge of how it’s affecting mental health, especially as influencers are showing an idealized image of their lives. This has us wondering about the potential impacts on young people’s self-esteem and image. This study will investigate the potential relationship between social media use and the mental health of high school students over 18 years old. It’s a quantitative study where data were collected through a survey, distributed by their teachers with a link. The data was analyzed in SPSS to find patterns, differences and similarities. The result showed that social media does have an impact on high school students mental health such as anxiety, psychological well-being, negative self-image and comparison with others on social media. However, the results showed no difference between the genders in how social media affects their mental health, but instead that it was fairly equal.
