Sammanfattning

Support for right-wing populist parties has increased while support for climate policy has decreased. At the same time, previous research has identified that there is a connection between right-wing populism and climate policy that is primarily based on nationalism, antielitism and political distrust (Kulin, J. & Johansson Säva, I. & Dunlap, R.E, 2021, pp. 1123–1127). The Sweden Democrats are a right-wing populist party in Sweden with increased political influence since 2022 (Sverigedemokraterna u.å, stycke 1). Which makes it relevant to examine the party's election manifestos from the parliamentary elections and European Parliament elections between 2010-2024 in order to examine how the party constructs the climate issue discursively, and how previous research relates to the party. This is studied based on discourse theory and selected theoretical concepts developed by Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe. The study is further studied through a discourse analysis. The study shows that the Sweden Democrats construct the climate issue as an economic issue where Swedish interests come first. But also, that large parts of the previous research relate to the Sweden Democrats' climate policy.
