"Hon höll så hårt i min hand och sa 'gå inte'": En kvalitativ intervjustudie om omsorgspersonals erfarenheter av att möta äldre med en demenssjukdom som utsätts för våld i nära relation i ordinärt boende

The purpose of this study has been to examine the experiences of caregivers in meeting elderly people with dementia who are exposed to domestic violence in their homes. We have chosen to investigate violence perpetrated by relatives. The study is based on a qualitative approach in the form of semi-structured interviews with caregivers who have experience working in home care. The empirical material consists of eight interviews. A thematic analysis has been used to analyze the empirical material. The results show the need for caregivers to receive both education on domestic violence as well as protocols and guidelines for them to be able to gain awareness of domestic violence and to handle such cases properly. Such measures would also reduce the risk of ethical stress and ill health among caregivers.
