Sammanfattning

This study aims to show how multiple modes of meaning-making work together to create or maintain discourses on BookTok and discuss what effects those discourses may have on the reading community. This thesis uses Critical Discourse Analysis to multimodally analyze the discourses occurring on BookTok and how those discourses construct identity. The study contextualizes how certain power structures are constructed and/or maintained through the discourses of BookTok. The study found that BookTok risks constructing and maintaining harmful discourses about reading and readers, resulting in fewer people reading.
