This study examines the implementation of Artificial intelligence(AI) and Machine learning (ML) in high-security facilities such as prisons to improve resource management, threat detection and operational management. The traditional processes in high-security facilities leads to increased human errors and increased costs which results in inefficiencies. With a literature review this study analyzed current AI and ML implementations in security-critical settings, with a focus on adaptive threat detection. This was done by combining a deductive approach to examine the improvement by reviewing existing literature using databases Scopus and Google Scholar. The results of this study shows that AI is specifically effective in automating regular tasks, such as threat detection and enhancing operational efficiency with minimal human interference. The findings of this study also showed that AI faces difficulties with making complex decisions that require human involvement, which highlights the importance of human oversight. Hence, the findings state that AI should assist and not replace human work when it comes to decision making. To ensure successful AI implementation in high-security environments, the findings suggest that there shall be a balance between AI systems and human involvement which is extra important when it comes to ethical issues.
