Sammanfattning
Increasing sustainability and regulatory demands have highlighted the importance of integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects into organizational decision-making processes within supplier selection and procurement processes. The purpose of this study was to analyze how sustainability aspects can be integrated into supplier selection by developing an ESG-based supplier evaluation model for supplier within metal raw material procurement. The study was conducted within the organizational context of a Swedish industrial company operating in the international B2B market for electrical connection and power distribution systems. A qualitative and decision-analytic approach was applied, combining document studies, structured interviews, and Multi-Attribute Value Theory (MAVT) to analyze and structure supplier-related decisions. Based on organizational documents and assessments from decision-makers involved in supplier-related processes, a hierarchical criteria structure integrating traditional purchasing criteria with ESG-related aspects was developed. The model was constructed using an additive MAVT framework, where value functions were established through the direct-rating method and criteria weights were determined using swing-weighting. A Monte Carlo-based sensitivity analysis was also conducted on the supplier alternatives evaluated using the model to analyze how variations in criteria weights influenced the decision outcome within the studied decision context. The findings indicate that ESG aspects can be integrated into supplier evaluation through a structured and transparent decision model. The study contributes to an empirically grounded model proposal that may support organizations in integrating sustainability aspects into procurement-related decision making. However, the findings are context dependent and should therefore be interpreted in relation to the studied organizational environment.
