Sammanfattning

ISAC, or Integrated Sensing and Communication, is a growing research area and is expected to be an important part of the forthcoming 6G wireless communication standard. In this thesis, we focus on examining performance and limitations of an ISAC-radar in a low-complexity mmWave beamforming architecture. We design methods to detect multiple nearby targets and estimate their range, velocity, angle of arrival and size in an architecture where reducing computational cost is vital. A particular focus is placed on developing sensing techniques that are easily incorporated into conventional receiver processing, designed for 5G communication, while remaining computationally efficient enough to be integrated into real-time communication systems. Configurations based on the standard 3GPP 5G communication specification for mmWave communication are used and performance is examined both with and without the presence of radio impairments. Finally, we delve into the broad topic that is classifying non-line-of-sight targets, where we propose a technique that could suggest that a detected target is potentially a false alarm after a single pulse.
