This bachelors thesis is based on ethnographic fieldwork conducted in various spaces forLGBTQIA+ people in two of the bigger cities in Sweden. The field covered in the researchranges from culture-centers with permanent queer spaces and nightlife venues such as bars andclubs as well as spaces that temporarily host events. Some of which are organized with aseparationist angle, while others are open to the non-LGBTQIA+ public as well. The physicalenvironment and its terms affect the social landscape that takes shape inside of these spaces.With the existance of, and continued application of limitations on public space created for theLGBTQIA+ community, the environments create the conditions for queer life in Sweden.Through analysis of the lived experiences and reflections of LGBTQIA+ people, the goal ofcreating more separatistic spaces, excluding the cis-hetero normative society -whilesimultaneously building spaces meant for specific parts of the LGBTQIA+ community has beendocumented through this study. Acting on this goal and documenting it can be seen as an act ofresistance of the current developments in LGBTQIA+ spaces. The field data is gathered throughobservations -both from a distance and from inside while participating, through informalconversations and interviews with the organizers and workers of the spaces as well as theirvisitors. The way visitors approach and interract with each other, the environment and organizers- has been the main focus of the study. The material has been analysed through a lens of theorysurrounding queer spatiality, utopic rehearsal, symbolic landscapes and imagined community.The thesis is written in Swedish.
