Sammanfattning

The current global situation places increasing demands on how we will need to useraw materials and resources in the future. A broad focus on sustainability andcircularity is crucial to achieving the goals of the EU’s Agenda 2050. Circulareconomy is a sustainable mindset where organizations reassess their use ofresources and promote collaboration with neighboring companies. By utilizingresidual flows, waste can be reduced and sustainability enhanced. The purpose of this study is to map residual streams and analyze opportunities forindustrial and urban symbiosis among companies in Västra Mark, Växjö. Byidentifying potential resource exchanges, collaboration between companies, VäxjöKommun, and Linnaeus University can be promoted for more sustainabledevelopment. The goal is to establish a network structure that facilitates cooperationand provides guidance for future circular partnerships. The results may also serveas a basis for further studies in this area. The mapping conducted on Verkstadsgatan in Västra Mark reveals severalopportunities for industrial and urban symbiosis. The companies LindAB andAhlsell are open to receiving workers with simpler skill sets, which opens uppossibilities for collaboration with Atrium, an organization focused on labor marketintegration. Residual materials such as sheet metal, wood, and plastic from LindABand Ahlsell could be used by Atrium or training programs, similar to how VäxjöFärg och Tapet already sends leftover materials to local high schools. There is alsopotential for collaboration on window reuse and joint investments in electric vehiclecharging infrastructure. The mapping of companies on Verkstadsgatan shows a strong interest in sustainabledevelopment, but also reveals structural barriers that hinder collaboration. Many ofthe companies already have their own sustainability initiatives, but in order tofurther develop cooperation between them, clearer support, guidelines, andcoordination are needed. The biggest obstacle is not a lack of willingness, but ratherthe absence of structures that facilitate collaboration. One suggestion is that Växjökommun continues the work by creating networks, offering financial support, andproviding guidance to companies. With the right conditions, Verkstadsgatan inVästra Mark could in the future develop into a model for circular collaboration.
