Sammanfattning

The project is a degree project within the Bachelor of Science in Innovation Technology and Design at Karlstad University, in collaboration with Stiliom. The work is carried out during the spring semester of 2026 by Ida Berzell and Ia Lind, with a scope of 22.5 higher education credits each. Supervision is provided by Johan Strandberg and Mattias Fröling, and the examiner is Leo De Vin. Stiliom offers electric barbecues from Christie Barbecues for public environments. The existing stand appears to have an industrial expression and does not convey the Scandinavian design language associated with the company. Therefore, there is a need to develop a stand that better reflects Stiliom’s brand while still functioning well in public environments. The aim of the project is to develop a concept proposal for an electric barbecue stand, with a focus on accessibility, functionality, and Scandinavian design. The research question is: How can a stand for an electric barbecue be developed so that it functions well in public environments and conveys a Scandinavian expression, while also being designed based on inclusive design and features that improve the use of the product? The structure of the work follows a product development process with the phases start-up, preliminary study, analysis, development, and in-depth development. This includes activities such as project planning, literature search, competitor analysis, function analysis, requirement specification, idea generation, concept selection, prototype development, material selection, FMEA, and ergonomic analysis. The result of the project is a concept proposal for an electric barbecue stand adapted for public environments. The concept has a width of 1350 mm, a depth of 870 mm, and a height of 860 mm (W x D x H). The concept is designed with integrated storage, a work surface, a waste solution, a service hatch and an arch that allows tools to be hung up. The stand has a modular structure that enables adaptation to different needs and environments. Through materials such as wooden paneling, stone, and stainless steel, the stand is given a more Scandinavian expression. The concept has also been designed with consideration for safety, ergonomics, and accessibility.
