Sammanfattning

Integration is described as fundamental for immigrants in order for them to establish a normal life in a new and unknown country. Mass migration is a current globally discussed problem, described as a social problem due to increased crime, usually blamed on failed attempts at integration. This study discusses the Swedish Fathima project organized by Save the Children’s Youth Association. The Fathima project focuses on helping young immigrant women integrate into Swedish society with the help of volunteers with relevant experiences. The volunteers with a foreign background are equipped with basic level knowledge and education, and with that, within their power and knowledge, to help young immigrant women integrate into Swedish society. With this study, we focus on how the volunteers interpret, interact, and utilize their knowledge to help or hinder the integration process, as well as what cultural differences and similarities may either contribute to or counteract said process. Another aspect of the study is to analyze the preservation of the young women's cultures.
