Leadership in most organizations is a prerequisite and can be decisive for an organization´s success, making it an essential area to prioritize and focus on in order to enable employees to perform at their best. The purpose of this study is to examine how senior managers perceive the relationship between leadership and performance. The study was conducted as a qualitative study using an abductive approach. Data collection consisted of qualitative interviews and a litterature review. Thematic analysis was employed to identify experiences and insights regarding leadership and performance. The findings indicate that leadership have a significant impact on performance and that there is no single best way of leading that is effective in every situation. Since individuals have different needs and organizations differ from one another, leadership must be adapted to both the individual employee and the organization in order to contribute to improved performance. The conclusion of this study shows that leadership is so important that, in some cases, it can be decisive for an organization´s success. Effective leadership enables people to perform better, whereas less effective leadership may prevent employees from reaching their full potential. Furthermore, the study shows that there is no single leadership style that works for all individuals and organizations, as people differ in their needs and characteristics. Consequently, leadership in most organizations becomes a combination of several leadership styles. This study contributes to a greater understanding of how senior managers perceive the relationship between leadership and performance. The findings suggest that effective leadership is achieved through a combination of different leadership styles rather than relying on a single leadership style.
