Sammanfattning

This bachelor thesis has been carried out in collaboration with Husmuttern AB. Husmuttern AB is a company currently in the concept phase of developing modular housing solutions. The purpose of this project is to propose a conceptual assembly layout for the installation of mono-pitched roofs for the company's housing modules. The focus is on designing an assembly station that is accessible to workers without prior work experience, language skills, or relevant vocational training. The project is based on guidelines aiming to minimize the number of worksteps, reduce unnecessary movements, and ensure good ergonomics. The work is guided by the following two research questions: 1. How can an ergonomic assembly station be designed for workers without language skills, work experience, or prior knowledge? 2. How can the 5S methodology be implemented in the design of the assembly station? The theoretical foundation of the thesis is based on layout design, ergonomics, lean principles, 5S, and digital work instructions. In addition, the project draws upon qualitative interviews and previous relevant thesis work conducted at Husmuttern AB. The study began with project planning, followed by preliminary design and the development of design specifications. These steps are described in detail in the section Approach and Method, with results presented in the chapter Empirical Results. The final result is a fixed-position assembly layout designed for horizontal roof assembly using a roof fixture. The material flow follows an I-shaped configuration. To better visualize the layout, the simulation tool Visual Components was used. The assembly station consists of a roof fixture, EUR pallets, mobile tool boards, and TV screens for displaying instructions.
