This essay aims to examine how Myron Gaines describes power relations between men and women in his book Why Women Deserve Less. Gaines´ is a prominent figure within the manosphere and is known for his misogynistic views. The study also relates Gaines´ arguments to John Rawls´ theory of justice and his ideas about how a just society should be structured. Furthermore, the study highlights the types of values and opinions that teachers may encounter in schools particularly in a time when many students are influenced by social media platforms where manosphere ideas are often spread. The study was conducted through a content analysis of Gaines´ book, in which questions were manufactured to the material in order to systematically identify relevant themes and arguments. The results show that Gaines believes women have gained too much power in society and that, according to him, women exploit men who seek relationships. According to Gaines, men should therefore focus on their own self-improvement and success, since women will then be attracted to the status and success that men have built for themselves. The analysis shows that Rawl´s theory of justice could, to some extent, acknowledge men’s experiences of unfair treatment, since Gaines´ explains why men perceive themselves as being treated unjustly. At the same time, Rawls´ emphasizes that all human beings possess inherent value and are entitled to fundamental rights and freedoms regardless of gender. This stands in contrast to Gaine´s perspective, as he attempts to argue why women should be considered less valuable than men. The conclusion of the study therefore shows that Gaines´ ideas can be regarded as misogynistic and that his vision of society, from the perspective of Rawls theory, cannot be considered a society based on justice.
