Sammanfattning

This report delves into the field of robust mobile satellite communication by focusing on the design and implementation of antenna array systems and beamforming techniques. The aim is to understand the fundamental topics and technologies and outline their importance for robust and mobile satellite communication. This includes an overview of SATCOM systems, antenna design principles, beamforming and beemsteering techniques, and signal processing for various array configurations, including linear, planar, and conformal(3D) arrays. Detailed discussions on beamforming and beamsteering methodologies, such as null steering, MUSIC, and MVDR, are presented, and also investigating analog, digital, and hybrid approaches. Methodologically, this report combines extensive literature reviews with simulation studies and hardware demonstrations. The simulations explore critical parameters, such as element spacing, phase variations, and amplitude tapering, alongside performance metrics, such as MSE for DOA estimation and beamwidth analysis. Hardware demonstrations validate these simulations, showcasing practical implementations of null steering and MVDR techniques using the CN0566 material. The results from the simulations and hardware demonstration provide an analysis of the different parameters and how they affect the performance within a satellite communications system. The interpretation of these results addresses potential challenges and limitations, as well as suggestions for improvements. The report concludes by summarizing the main achievements and suggesting avenues for future research within the vast area of robust mobile satellite communication.
