Sammanfattning

This bachelor thesis examines how Sámi women and queer Sámi people's vulnerabilization is constructed through an indigenous feminist and western politics discourse in the report called Violence against Sámi women (Våld mot samiska kvinnor). By using critical discourse analysis and Fairclough’s three-dimensional model, the thesis shows that the report constructs Sámi women's vulnerabilization through an indigenous feminist discourse by challenging gendered, colonial power relations. Both groups vulnerabilization is constructed through the same discourse by how the authors partly define self-determination as a value and points out that it is both the Sámi community and the Swedish government that holds responsibility for preventing and combating the violence against Sámi women and queer Sámi people. In relations to an western politics discourse, Sámi women and queer Sámi people's vulnerabilization is constructed by mainly understanding self-determination through an western political perspective. They define it as a right which only highlights the power relations between all Sámi people and the Swedish state, and exclude other relations of dominance which affect Sámi women and queer Sámi people negatively. Due to this, self-determination can not be achieved and gendered, colonial power relations and colonial ideology is maintained.
