The overarching purpose of this study is to examine how the Sweden Democrats' feminist approach and positions relate to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Through a descriptive idea analysis, the thesis aims to investigate the Sweden Democrats' feminist approach and how it influences their views on parental leave and the wearing of veils, as well as whether this results in contradictions. This is achieved by analyzing three relevant party documents and two specific policy proposals. This delimited material enables an in-depth analysis that is both relevant and manageable within the framework of the study's purpose and research questions. The theoretical framework of the study includes constructed ideal types of differential feminism and femonationalism, as well as CEDAW, which serves as a theoretical foundation. Ideal types and qualitative analysis of ideas and ideological content are used as methods within the idea analysis. The Sweden Democrats' policies exhibit traits of differential feminism and femonationalism, consistent with their policy proposals to remove the reserved months in parental leave and impose a total ban on veils. The thesis identifies a contradiction and feminist paradox, where gender equality and women's rights are promoted in ways that can simultaneously advance xenophobic agendas but not address harmful power structures. The conclusions are evaluated against CEDAW, revealing that the Sweden Democrats' feminist approach and positions are not aligned with the convention's central objectives.
