Sammanfattning

We have tried to explain our experiences and phenomenal consciousness for a very long time, and we still haven’t found a theory that can explain this mystery. In this paper three hypotheses about phenomenal consciousness are suggested and argued for, about its function: (1) The function of phenomenal consciousness is to facilitate understanding, about the mechanism: (2) Phenomenal essence is the interface medium between that which experiences and that which is experienced, and about its realisation: (3) Phenomenal essence is oscillating electro-magnetic fields. The first two hypotheses are theory neutrals when it comes to theories of consciousness, but the implementation suggested by the third is not. A consequence of these hypotheses is that all life as we know it are conscious. When looking at the markers of consciousness with this new perspective of phenomenal essence as an interface medium that is necessary for grasping and therefore understanding and learning we see the equivalent to the human behaviours in all living entities. All life needs a basic understanding in order to prioritise actions and goals. A simplified and seemingly trivial answer to both Chalmers Hard Problem and Dennett’s Hard Question is thus provided:Experiencing enables understanding of content.
