Sammanfattning

The aim of this study was to analyze and compare hos Swedish and international research describe youth crime in relation to socioeconomically disadvantaged areas, and to examine the implications of these descriptions for social work. The study was conducted as a qualitative literature review with a comparative and hermeneutic approach. Previous research constituted the study material and was analyzed through qualitative content analysis using Bacchi`s WPR framework. The findings showed that both Swedish and international research describe youth crime as a complex phenomenon shaped by individual, social and structural factors. Common risk factors included socioeconomic disadvantage, school difficulties, lack of family support, and negative peer relations. At the same time, research emphasized that socioeconomic disadvantage does not itself cause crime, and that most young people in disadvantage areas do not engage in criminal behavior. Protective factors such as school attachment, positive adult relationships, and social support were highlighted as important. Swedish research more often emphasized segregation, relationships, and inter-agency collaboration, while international research focused more on risk factors and controll measures. The conclusion is that social work should adopt a holistic perspective that considers both risk and protective factors, as well as structural conditions.
