Sammanfattning

Through a postcolonial feminist perspective, this study searched to examine how The Walt Disney Company portrayed and represented parity in two of Disney's animated films from different decades based on ethnicity, gender, and social status. Film have previously been a very useful approach when it comes to feminist research as it offers the researcher to analyze the underlying sentences of the film. Through a qualitative content analysis, I searched for themes in the material that could be associated with theories that was relevant in feminist research. The analysis showed that Disney had taken on board previous criticisms of how they portray the female role and different ethnic communities, but there was still a narrative deeply rooted in heterosexuality as norm and a creation of the other towards the characters who do not follow the norm and also malicious portrayal. In conclusion, I could state that the themes in the two films were designed to be identifiable from a Western heteronormative context, but that Disney now makes more identifiable and multifaceted representations in its productions. In the conclusion, I am also critical of parts of Margareta Rönnberg's research on Disney, which has a Western perspective as its central starting point.
