Sammanfattning

This thesis presents the development of a Visual Studio Code extension aimed at optimizing Python development through Varvault integration. Varvault, created by Chloe Holst, is a powerful Python library that has become foundational in some of Ductus’ Python development processes. Despite its capabilities, real-time debugging of Python libraries poses significant challenges. This study explores the feasibility and process of integrating Varvault into VS Code to streamline development and improve efficiency. The extension tracks key inputs and outputs, facilitating the identification of key usage within Varvault directly inside the VS Code environment. This integration simplifies large-scale project management and variable handling. The research includes a thorough exploration of VS Code extension development, utilizing both TypeScript and Python to create a robust and user-friendly tool. The project resulted in a functional extension that not only meets Ductus’ criteria but also provides a foundation for further enhancements. This extension improves development speed and accuracy, offering valuable insights into best practices for creating extensions and expanding the capabilities of VS Code. The successful implementation demonstrates the potential for significant productivity gains and sets the stage for future developments in this area.
