Though the Treasury stated that leaving the EU would lead to high economic costs for the UK, people still voted to leave. Since the referendum was held, many researchers have tried to explain what factors influenced the outcome of the vote. The aim of this dissertation is to further contribute to the existing research. This will be done by analysing variables based on demographic, as well as economic factors, through cross-sectional data from the 133 NUTS 3 regions in England. They will be used in a bivariate analysis and a multivariate analysis as well as a multivariate analysis with robust standard errors in relation to the dependent variable share of votes in favour of leaving. The results of the analysis showed significant results for age, people working in the exporting industry and GDHI. When the regression was run without robust standard errors, voting turnout was also found to be a significant variable.
