Sammanfattning

AbstractIn today's manufacturing industry, companies face increasingly high demands to scale up production without compromising quality and flow efficiency. This case study has been conducted at an electronics manufacturing company currently undergoing a phase of increased production volume. The study focuses on the production flow for product X and aims to examine current challenges and deficiencies in the flow, in order to draw lessons that can be applied when managing a future volume increase.Three research questions have guided the study:What challenges and deficiencies can be identified in the existing production flow? How do the identified challenges and deficiencies in the current state manifest when production volumes increase? What lessons and improvement measures can be identified as relevant ahead of a future increase in production volume? The study applies both a qualitative and quantitative case study methodology. Data has been collected through structured observations, semi-structured interviews with operators and production managers, a workshop with parts of the management team, and analysis of the company's internal production data. The theoretical framework is based on Lean and value stream mapping, bottleneck analysis, capacity theory, time studies, and SOC (sense of coherence). The current state description shows that the production flow for product X consists of several steps, including surface mounting, AOI, selective soldering, pre-assembly, post-assembly, casting process, and testing. Capacity differences and variations in cycle times create uneven flow and bottlenecks. From an organizational perspective, challenges related to comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness are also identified among parts of the workforce ahead of the upcoming scale-up.The study's conclusions point to concrete improvement measures for smoothing out the flow and managing capacity constraints ahead of an increased production volume, as well as the importance of a holistic perspective in the development of production systems.
