This study examines how climate knowledge is actualized, interpreted and implemented in architectural practice. It contributes to understanding the performance gap between climate goals and actual practice, in the field of architecture, following the development project Effekt! in real time. There is currently a lack of practical studies in the early design stages as well as insight into how we concretely design sustainable buildings. This is investigated to bridge the gap between evidence and implementation in design methodology, using interviews, observations, and document analysis from the development project. Frameworks based on theories of practical and aesthetic knowledge, as well as agonistic and solutionist perspectives, in the field of architecture, contributes to increased understanding of the actualization, negotiation and importance of climate science. The study shows how climate knowledge is shaped in negotiations, how practical as well as aesthetic knowledge influences decisions, how risk and mandate structure the scope for action and therefore can lead to climate knowledge losing power in design process or can contribute positively. This study thereby contributes to a deeper understanding of the performance gap between climate goals and architectural practice, and offers empirical insight into how climate knowledge is formed, negotiated, and operationalized in the pursuit of more sustainable built environments.
