This project explores the future of institutional architecture in the context of the small town, where centralization and deinstitutionalization have led to entire areas losing their purpose. The proposal is an addition to the Marieberg hospital area in Kristinehamn, aiming to spatially connect the existing buildings and improve accessibility to a site that forms part of our modern cultural heritage.Faced with an aging population and a shortage of accessible and appropriate housing for the elderly, the project consists of new senior housing. The aim has been to develop a proposal rooted in the realities of regional and local planning, while also critically examining the architectural outcomes shaped by current problem definitions. How can a place with a lost purpose continue to provide care, not only for its residents, but for everyone?
