Sammanfattning

This essay examines how the relationship between the schools’ mission to convey democratic values and the personal and academic development mission in religious education in Sweden has evolved over time. The study suggests that many of the contradictions found in today’s elementary school curriculum stem from the fact that elements of the old curriculum remain today without having been adapted to the modern elements and values that have been added. To reduce these contradictions and improve schools’ ability to follow the curriculum’s guidelines and create an equal education, the study shows that the curriculum needs to be made more consistant.
