When doing product development on components usedin complex systems such as truck engines it is importantto have a complete understanding of what affects thecomponent and what the component affects. This is noexception for Volvo GTT, a leading international truckproducer. This master thesis means to design a concept of a digitaltool that will enable GCRs to easily get an informationaloverview of their component and its usage for analyticpurposes. This by creating a UI that ensures good usabilityand memorability. The aim is to deliver a conceptof a UI with good user flow and functions relevant forcomponent analysis. The project follows a human centered design processknown as design thinking consisting in three phases, Understand,Explore and Materialize. To empathize deeperwith the user a component analysis of the rear enginePTO was made, followed with user interviews. The goalof the “understand” phase was to define user needs andthe activities that the digital tool would have to enable sothat a component analysis can be made. Methods used in the project were such as brain drawing, moodboard’s prototyping and user tests. The main usersfor the project were GCRs and specifically the REPTOGCR who is a mechanical engineer. The users forthe digital tool were also considered as new/casual userssince the task of conducting a component analysis wasnot done often. This sparked a literature study into learnabilityand memorability. The theoretical framework wasbuilt through research done in the literature study. The final result of the project was a hi fi prototype ofa digital tool that enabled data storage, text entry, reportexporting and data visualization. It was designedin a desktop format showing core functions, layout anddesign elements. The prototype follows Volvo GTTsgraphical profile and was constructed using figma. Thedigital prototype only shows limited functions due totime restraints.
