Sammanfattning

During surgery there is always a risk of instruments or patients being contaminated by airborne particles in the operating room. This is due to people in the room, their activities and the equipment in the room. The room ventilation system is crucial for maintaining a clean environment and reducing the risk of infection. QleanAir wanted to explore whether they could further improve the operating environment by introducing a new mobile ventilation device with horizontal airflow. The purpose of this project was to investigate whether this device could make the operating environment cleaner through various measurements with and without the device. The mobile ventilation device consists of a diffuser connected to an air purifier with a HEPA 14 filter. The diffuser was placed above the patient on the operating table and generated a horizontal airflow of HEPA-filtered air over the patient. Measurements were conducted in two different environments, and both particle and airflow measurements were made. Particle measurements were taken both in the zone with the horizontal airflow and in the periphery of the room for comparison purposes. The results showed a significant reduction in particles when the diffuser was used compared to when it was not used. This discovery may contribute to creating even cleaner and safer operating environments for both patients and staff.
