Sammanfattning

The construction and real estate sector face great challenges related to climate impact, resource consumption, and waste generation. Reuse of building components has been identified as a potential solution; however, the implementation of reuse practices remains limited. This study investigates the prerequisites for reusing installations, focusing on air handling units from practical and environmental perspectives. In this study, reuse of air handling units is investigated using literature review, industry interviews, and life cycle assessment (LCA). The results show that reuse is mainly applied in specific projects and lacks standardized processes. Key barriers include responsibility, warranties, and increased workload. The LCA indicates that recuse can reduce climate impact by approximately 0.287 tons CO2e compared to new production. However, lower energy performance in reused units creates a trade-off between reuse and energy efficiency. In conclusion, reuse of air handling units has strong potential but requires improved processes, clearer responsibilities, and a life cycle perspective.
