Sammanfattning

In today’s society artificial intelligence is used to make work-life more efficient and minimize costs in work processes, this mindset has grown across many industries. One profession where AI is expected to be increasingly used is in recruitment. The use of AI in recruitment can be described as recruitment automation. The purpose of this study is to research how social relations and professional identity have changed for recruiters since the implementation of AI. This study uses qualitative, semi-structured interviews to collect data. The interviewed individuals consists of people who have worked with recruitment both before and after AI was implemented in the recruitment processes. The theoretical framework used to interpret the results in this study is Goffman’s dramaturgical theory with concepts like front- and back-stage, role distance and role taking, as well as Giddens’ theory of modernity and self-identity. Additionally, the theory of socio-technical systems is discussed. The conclusions drawn from the study indicate that recruitment automation contributes to changes in the work of recruiters. Tasks are replaced by AI which impacts recruiters’ professional identity,in such a way that they feel less trust when they are not personally responsible for execution. The social relationship between recruiter and candidate has less room to develop, leading to a reduction in social interactions. However, the possibility for meaningful relationship-building remains.
