Background & problem: Artificial intelligence (AI) has gained an increasingly significant role in society, and the debate regarding the automation of more and more work tasks is becoming more relevant than ever. It is thus easy to get the impression that AI is being implemented extensively in companies, to replace and improve their previous processes, not least investment proposals and decision-making. While there is a good amount of research regarding the use of AI tools to determine their pros and cons, there is a lack of empirical research on how the technology is applied in today's businesses. Purpose: The purpose of the study is thus to map how AI tools are used in the development of analysis, decision-support material and decision-making within the investment process. In this way, the study contributes with increased knowledge about how AI affects the various parts of the investment process. Method: Through a survey, Swedish manufacturing companies have answered questions regarding their AI use within the investment process. The study applies a quantitative research approach and a hypothetical deductive method for empirical collection and analysis, and is supplemented by a preliminary study and non-response analysis. Conclusion: The result of the study is that AI has a relatively low implementation among companies. While usage varies at different stages of the investment process, it remains low in this area. The outcome also indicates that AI generally lacks reliability and is thus used as support for the already existing processes instead of replacement. This is reinforced by the complementary empirical evidence which confirmed that the use was very limited, although there were plans for increased AI application in the future. In this way, the study's results are not necessarily a sign of AI's low usefulness, but rather the skepticism in changing their work processes.
